Join us at the next BCHS Quarterly Meeting, Thursday, January 23, 2025, the BCHS Museum & Visitor Center. Sandra Chipley, RLA, ASLA, BCHS Trustee and Vice Chair of the Bastrop County Historical Commission (BCHC), will be our speaker for this month’s Quarterly Meeting.
Born and raised in Bastrop, Leah Moncure beat the odds and managed to succeed in the “male” profession of engineering, becoming Texas’s first woman professional engineer and the Texas Highway Department’s first female engineer. During her years at TxDOT, Chipley became familiar with Leah Moncure’s story.
The museum’s next quarterly meeting will feature Bastrop’s own, Leah Moncure, who became the first woman engineer in Texas.
