About the event
Texas Independence Day | Ladies First!
Celebrate Texas Independence Day by learning about the extraordinary Texan ladies who left a legacy on Bastrop County with special emphasis on women who influenced education, historical preservation, and Black culture. This event includes a pop-up special exhibit curated by local historian, Michal Hubbard, as well as a compelling presentation by her.
"Though Bastrop history frequently emphasizes the political and military accomplishments of its male population, women were the backbone of family, culture, society, and education in Bastrop County. They have operated schools, fought for civic improvements, preserved history, broke societal barriers, and generally kept the home fires burning brightly in the County for two hundred years." - Michal Hubbard
